Repairing Laptop Motherboards

The main symptoms encountered when a motherboard is no longer working properly are:

the laptop starts, but it does not show a picture on the display;

Repairing Laptop Video Cards

For laptops, video cards can be either integrated on motherboards or detachable. No matter the case, the repairs can be done for most defects by performing electronic fixes and re-soldering or by replacing the faulty components (GPU, memories, transistors, etc.).

A faulty video card can lead to the following behaviors:

the laptop starts, but it does not display an image;
the laptop starts, but the image is not correctly displayed;
the laptop starts, the backlight is on for the screen but the image is missing;
missing backlight for the LCD;
the laptop is not working for the optimum resolution;
the laptop is only working when connected to an external monitor.

Repairing laptop connectors

The most often encountered issues are related to the power connector, VGA connector, USB and RJ-45 connectors. The faults usually appear due to incorrect handling of the laptop (mechanical shocks, using incompatible connectors) and they can all be solved by replacing or repairing the faulty connectors.

You can easily identify these defects as the following behaviors:

the laptop stops working when connected to the main power line even though the charger is fully functional
after inserting the power connector in the laptop, the laptop will overheat and the battery is not charged unless the user keeps the power connector fixed in a certain position;
the network board stops working once the network cable is inserted;
the VGA, audio, USB connectors are visibly damaged (broken) due to mechanical shocks.

If there is a problem with the power connector, a repair is mandatory, even if the laptop keeps working when the power connector is held in certain positions. If the repair is not done, the motherboard can eventually char or melt around the power connector's area and the fix for that problem is very difficult, if possible.

Repairing Laptop Display Invertors

A faulty invertor may lead to the following:

the laptop starts, the image is present on the display but it's not lit;
the laptop will start, the image will appear for a fraction of a second or even a few minutes and then the screen will no longer be lit.

Repairing Laptop LCD Screens

Usually this part cannot be fixed (the screen is broken, dead pixels can be seen, horizontal or vertical stripes are visible permanently or when the screen is moved) and the only solution is to replace it with a compatible display.

The LCD screen can be fixed in the following situations:

the laptop starts, the image is present on the display but it's not lit;
the laptop starts, the image appears for a fraction of a second or even for a few minutes, then the display no longer stays lit;
the display shows an unnatural shade of red;
the display shows some type of colored horizontal or vertical stripes, permanently or when it's moved.

If you think that the CCFL lamp of your LCD display is faulty, don't try to disassemble the screen by yourself, as it will surely lead to damaging it (unless you are a qualified specialist). We are waiting for you to come to our service for a correct diagnosis and a safe repair.

Repairing and Replacing Laptop Fans (Coolers)

Usually, as cleaning the laptop is neglected, due to the debris accumulated in the cooling system the fan will break down.

This can be easily identified when:

the laptop starts, the operating system is loaded but the fan does not start, and the system automatically shuts down due to overheating;
the fan produces an abnormal sound and it blocks.
